Distortion of Ideas
By Frederick James
The foundational premiss of the United States is integrated in the Preamble to the US Constitution: “To form a more perfect Union.” The rest of the Preamble and the content of the Constitution itself explains laws of government which will enable the nation to become a more perfect Union.
During the hot summer of 1787, representatives from the states came to Philadelphia to hammer out changes to the existing Articles of Confederation which had led to a fragmentation among the states. Weakness had arisen in the national government. The lack of authority to tax the states, raise an army, and to enforce laws threatened the new Republic of the United States.
Shays’ Rebellion was the determining factor which led prominent men from the states to force a meeting, first in Annapolis, Maryland, to strengthen the national government. It was a rebellion in Massachusetts of many former soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War.
They were now facing the loss of their property because they could not pay debts for back taxes and farming supplies. Many could not pay because the soldiers hadn’t been paid for their service in the Revolutionary War. Now businesses were going to court to confiscate property to pay for the debts of individuals. The rebellion was crushed by the state militia.
In 1861 the United States faced another national crisis that split the country in two. After 85 years of slavery in the nation of the United States, the South seceded from the Union to protect the institution and its idea of state’s rights. Abolitionist fought hard for many years to achieve the end of the unjust practice of slavery. Many saw slavery has a contradiction to the whole American theory of government and to its Christianity.
The Civil War came like a whirlwind. From Fort Sumter to Antietam, from Gettysburg and Vicksburg to Chickamauga, and from the Wilderness to Appomattox Courthouse the blood flowed. The violent eruptions of battle spread from the years of failed compromises and agitation between the North and the South.
The unsettled and incomplete decisions from the Constitutional Convention came back to haunt the country and its separated leaders for four mournful years 1861 to 1865. Over 620,000 American soldiers died of battle wounds and diseases. The seeds sown over the 85 years since the birth of the country reaped a maelstrom, especially, from the decade of the 1850’s.
Racism did not end with the war. Terrorist in the form of the Ku Klux Klan arose in the South to reverse the outcome of the bloody Civil War. South Carolina and other southern states had rejected the outcome of the1861 presidential election of Abraham Lincoln of Illinois.
Democrats were the agitators. Democrats were the slaveholders. Democrats were the party which caused “faction” leading to division in the republic as the Federalist Papers warned against. Southerners didn’t get their political and economic way so they caused a violent uprising against the federal government resulting in human and economic devastation on a monumental scale.
After the war it was a game of reversal in the South. They had to get their way politically. Literacy tests, poll taxes, intimidation, and further racism produced another 100 years of backward movement for African Americans in the South. President Ulysses Grant tried so hard to halt the violence against former slaves in the South during the 1870’s. He never gets credit for this.
In 2019 the United States faces a multiplicity of national divisive crisis. It now comes in the forms of presidential hatred, reverse racism against white men, Congressional waste, judicial lawmaking and law enforcement, liberal mainstream media bias, racist congressmen and congresswomen, presidential harassment, and historical illiteracy.
Actions by the House of Representatives are an all out political war against the president, driven by unprecedented hatred, and an unwillingness of Democrats to accept the results of the 2016 election. Remember, South Carolina and ten other states refused to accept the results of the 1861 election.
The specter of Hillary Clinton still looms in the minds of the Democratic Party and liberals across the country just as the specter of James Buchanan and John Breckinridge loomed among Democrats in 1861. Not since the years before the bloody Civil War has there been such animosity between Democrats and Republicans.
The continued fury over President Trump’s leadership continues to cause a national divide where many people are fearful of publicly showing support for the president. Groups like Antifa now take away freedom of speech from conservative counter protesters as Don Lemon of CNN defends their work and their actions.
Kamala Harris recently said, “I know predators, and we have a predator living in the White House. And let me tell you, there’s a little secret about predators. Donald Trump has predatory nature and predatory instincts,” Fox News reported on Wednesday.
“Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s (D-Texas) bill would form a commission to study whether black Americans should receive reparations for slavery is gaining traction among top Democrats, with the legislation reaching 90 co-sponsors by the end of June.”
Agitators of Lies
Rep. AOC says, “The GOP's grand plan to 'Make America Great Again' is to hurt children, immigrants, refugees into thinking America isn't great - that it's cruel & inhumane - so people don't come at all,” Fox News reported.
According to Politico, “The full 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday said it would take up a fresh challenge to the Trump administration's overhaul of the federal family planning program just weeks after three of its Republican-appointed judges said the policy change can take effect nationwide while several legal challenges play out.
The appeals court froze the administration's rule revamping the Title X program while it hears the case,” according to Brigitte Amiri, deputy director at the ACLU's Reproductive Freedom Project. “The court's order marks the latest turn in a battle over the administration’s changes to the program, which seek to steer federal dollars away from providers such as Planned Parenthood that offer abortions and abortion referrals. Critics have dubbed the Trump policy a "gag rule."
Critics of President Trump continue everyday to wallow in their contradictions and attacks on everything he does. Right after his fourth of July speech, CNN had a panel on air saying his speech was from pages of Wikipedia. Led by April Ryan, they berated the president as giving a junior high History lesson where only basics were emphasized to the crowd.
These contentions are all false. He personalized the historical content through stories of real people. He told of the bravery and scientific endeavors of American citizens who have contributed unprecedented good to the world.
These race baiters will cause continuous divisions in the US. Their fruitless and condescending attitudes toward anyone who is not a liberal has gone on far too long. AOC, Rashid Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar along with CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, African American woman journalist and ABC fake news will drive hatred toward the president and against white men in general for the sins of slavery.
These historical illiterates do not know US History. They are grounded in radical Islamic, radical left, and radical black history. Did any of these celebrate America? No, they lambasted the Declaration of Independence as a racist white privileged document. They take everything dealing with race and take it out of historical context.
Rashida Tlaib retweeted the following from Ayanna Pressley from a salon.com article: “Our founding fathers were not living gods...they were fallible human beings." The Declaration of Independence "did not condemn slavery, protect the rights of women or include Native Americans."
No one ever said the founding fathers were gods! They were people who lived in a time when democratic ideas were evolving. Slavery, the status of women, the rights of Native Americans were part of the society these men were raised in. Not every leader was destined to become a social justice advocate. Why don’t social activists attack Jesus Christ who lived among slaves, but said nothing of abolition. Was anyone but Spartacus going to fight against slavery and against the Romans?
Louis Sarkosky of the Washington Examiner states, “Of course, slavery was always morally despicable, even when enforced by law and widely condoned. But should the judgment of an individual born within slavery’s heyday and one born today be the same? I don’t believe so, simply because most of our morality comes from our environment, and an individual born in a pro-slavery environment can’t be discerned from his or her environment.”
I choose to think of America differently: “That same American Spirit that emboldened our founders has kept us strong throughout our history. To this day, that spirit runs through the veins of every American patriot. It lives on in each and every one of you.” President Donald Trump July 4, 2019.
